A lot of photographers talk about the benefits of a first look. One of the first things we mention is that you get more portraits. By doing a first look, we can do all the portraits before the ceremony, so there is no rushing afterward to get you into the reception. The second thing we mention, is the fact that if you do a first look, you can go straight into dinner after the ceremony instead of having to do portraits. While these are both great points, I want to give you a couple more that come from the heart.
1.Reduces so Much Stress
Doing a first look reduces the pressures in a wedding day. Instead of waiting in your bridal suite with just your girlfriends, hoping your groom isn’t panicking, you are able to spent the morning with him. You’ll get to laugh together, snuggle some before the big ceremony, and enjoy the day together. He’s no longer nervous and shaking at the alter, too stressed to express his true joy in seeing you. Now he is able to relax and have his best friend by his side.
2. Allows Him to Show True Emotions
When you walk down the aisle, he is thrilled to see you! But he’s probably trying not to let ALL of his groomsmen and his family see him cry. During a first look, the ONLY person watching his reaction is YOU! The one person he is most comfortable with. A first look allows him to relax and show his true emotions that he may not have in front of your ENTIRE wedding.
3. The Photos of his Reaction are Better Quality
When he sees you for the first time walking down the aisle, its the first time you guests are seeing you too. They are all excited to get a glimpse of you as you walk by, and often times, lean in front of us or hold their phones in our way. Additionally, there is only a short window where we can get both you and the groom in the same shot. The moment you pass by us, we can snap a photo of his face between you and your dad. The problem with that is that we’re seeing your back. When you do a first look, we are able to get two angles of the first look, and you’re both in each of those angles.
Overall, we completely respect a couples decision, no matter what that may be. If you choose to do a first look, there are many benefits! If you decide to do it the traditional way (as we did), we will work it into the timeline beautifully! Either way, it’s your day, and we can’t wait to capture the love you two share together!
